Nehorai awarded $827,820

Arye Nehorai, PhD, the Eugene and Martha Lohman Professor and chair of electrical and systems engineering, has received a four-year, $827,820 grant from the National Science Foundation for research titled “Design and Implementation of Position-Encoded 3D Mircoarrays.”

Nehorai awarded $324,717

Arye Nehorai, PhD, the Eugene and Martha Lohman Professor and chair of the Preston M. Green Department of Electrical & Systems Engineering, has received a three-year, $324,717 grant from the National Science Foundation for research titled “Algorithms, Performance and Design for Sparsity-Enforced Learning.”

Graduate student awarded $52,000

Namit Gaur, a doctoral student in Dr. Yoram Rudy's laboratory, has received a two-year, $52,000 predoctoral fellowship grant from the American Heart Association for research titled “Calcium Cycling Disturbances and Hereditary Arrhythmias.”

Wang awarded $1,198,524

Lihong Wang, PhD, the Gene K. Beare Distinguished Professor in Biomedical Engineering, has received a one-year, $1,198,524 grant from the National Institutes of Health National Center for Research Resources for research titled “Integrated Two-Photon/Confocal/Photoacoustic Microscopy.” This grant is supported by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

Namit Gaur and Alan Desouza Receive American Heart Association (AHA) Fellowships

Congratulations to Namit Gaur, a PhD student and Dr. Alan Desouza, a Postdoctoral fellow, both conducting research in professor Yoram Rudy’s lab; they received fellowships from the American Heart Association to continue their research on cardiac arrhythmia mechanisms.

Damiano name president of International Society of Minimally Invasive Cardiothoracic Surgery

Ralph J. Damiano Jr., MD, chief of cardiac surgery and the John M. Shoenberg Professor of Surgery, was elected president of the International Society of MInimally Invasive Cardiothoracic Surgery for 2010-11.

Dr. Yoram Rudy Awarded the 2010 Heart Rhythm Society Distinguished Scientist Award.


The award ceremony took place at the Annual Heart Rhythm Society scientific sessions in Denver, Colorado.

Jianmin Cui, PhD, associate professor of biomedical engineering, has received a four-year, $1,330,000 grant from the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke for research titled “Subunits Interaction in the Function of BK Channels.”

Nehorai will receive Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Signal Processing Society Meritorious Service Award

Arye Nehorai, Ph.D., the Eugene and Martha Lohman Professor and chair of the Department of Electrical & Systems Engineering, will receive the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Signal Processing Society Meritorious Service Award in March at the International Conference on Acoustics, Speech and Signal Processing in Dallas. Nehorai has been a fellow of the IEEE since 1994 and received the award for exceptional and dedicated service as a leader in a broad range of activities for the society and profession.
