Schaffer awarded the Faculty Mentor Award

Jean E. Schaffer, MD, the Virginia Minnich Distinguished Professor of Medicine, received the Faculty Mentor Award from the Academic Women’s Network on April 26.


Optical Society honors Lihong Wang

The Optical Society (OSA) has awarded the C.E.K. Mees Medal to Lihong V. Wang, PhD, the Gene K. Beare Distinguished Professor of Biomedical Engineering.



Efimov awarded $418,000

Igor Efimov, PhD, the Lucy and Stanley Lopata Distinguished Professor of Biomedical Engineering, has received a two-year, $418,000 grant from the National Institute of Health’s National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute for research titled “Implantable Mouse Pacemaker.”


Nichols awarded $1,300,000

Colin G. Nichols, PhD, the Carl F. Cori Professor and professor of cell biology and physiology, has received a four-year, $1.3 million grant from the National Institutes of Health for research titled “Electrical Control of Insulin Secretion.”


Pan Li and Junjie Zhang Receives Award for Best Poster

Junjie Zhang Pan LiPan Li and Junjie Zhang, trainees in the laboratory of Professor Yoram Rudy,
received awards for best poster presentations at the 2011 Gordon Conference on Cardiac Arrhythmia Mechanisms (Galveston, TX). Pan Li received first prize for his project “A Model of the Cardiac Purkinje Action Potential and Calcium Cycling.” Junjie Zhang received second prize for the project “Characterization of Electrophysiologic Substrate in Post- Myocardial Infarction Patients using Noninvasive Electrocardiographic Imaging (ECGI).”
